How to Make Perfect Cold Brew This Summer

As temperatures rise, Cold Brew becomes one of the best ways to enjoy coffee. Unlike iced coffee, Cold Brew is made by slow extraction with cold water, resulting in a smoother, sweeter, and more refreshing drink.

With the Hario Mizudashi, you can easily prepare it at home by following these steps.

What you need:

  • Freshly roasted coffee.
  • Filtered cold water.
  • A Hario Mizudashi (600 ml or 1,000 ml).
  • Refrigerator.

We recommend using freshly roasted Ethiopian coffee and a coarse grind for the best result.

Step 1 — Grind the coffee

Use a coarse grind, similar to the texture of coarse salt.

A grind that is too fine will make the coffee more bitter and with more sediment.

Step 2 — Measure the coffee

Hario Mizudashi 600 ml
50–60 g of coffee.

Hario Mizudashi 1,000 ml 
80–100 g of coffee.

You can slightly adjust the quantity depending on whether you prefer a stronger or milder Cold Brew.

Step 3 — Add the coffee

Place the ground coffee inside the reusable cylindrical filter and insert it into the pitcher.

Step 4 — Add the water

Pour cold water slowly over the coffee.

When finished, stir gently for a few seconds to ensure all the coffee is well moistened.

Step 5 — Steep

Close the pitcher and let it steep in the refrigerator for 8 to 12 hours.

Step 6 — Remove the filter and serve

Remove the filter and serve the Cold Brew directly.

You can enjoy it in many ways:

  • Black.
  • With ice.
  • With milk.
  • With plant-based milk.
  • With tonic.
  • With an orange or lemon slice.

  • Always use freshly roasted coffee.
  • Store Cold Brew in the refrigerator.
  • Consume preferably within the next 3 to 5 days.
  • Try different Ethiopian coffees: natural process coffees offer fruitier profiles, and washed process coffees offer a cleaner, more floral cup.
