Presentation : Reinterpreting a classic like Viña Salceda Crianza, a benchmark in Rioja since its birth with the mythical 1970 vintage, has been quite a challenge for David González, but the result is admirable.
Viticulture and production: The Viña Salceda winery was founded in 1969 in Elciego, one of the most charismatic towns in the Rioja Alavesa region. The first vintage produced was the legendary 1970, and Viña Salceda quickly established itself as one of the new benchmarks of Rioja. The key to Viña Salceda's winemaking strategy lies in the diversity of the sub-zones where its nearly 100 hectares of vineyards are located, especially the Sonsierra and Alto Najerilla, from which the Tempranillo and Garnacha grapes used to make this red wine originate. The grapes are destemmed, without crushing, and undergo a cold pre-fermentation maceration for 5 days. Alcoholic fermentation takes place for 10 days at a controlled temperature. Malolactic fermentation then occurs in concrete tanks, followed by a period of aging in oak barrels.
Aged for 12 months in wood and concrete
Tasting notes: Ruby red in color, still with violet hues. Very intense on the nose. Initially, pleasant notes of vanilla, from aging, sweet. Then spices: white pepper, bay leaf, and nutmeg. Full-bodied, well-balanced, with excellent volume and intensity. Crisp acidity acts as the wine's backbone, providing a refreshing finish that invites another sip.
Awards / Scores:
