#24 Do you know about the three rounds of Ethiopian coffee?

The tradition that inspired our coffee subscriptions
In the traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, coffee does not end after the first cup.
It is brewed and shared in three rounds: Abol, Tona, and Bereka.
The three are part of the same experience, yet each represents a different moment.
For us, this way of understanding coffee says a lot about the culture it comes from. Coffee is not simply something you drink. It is shared time, conversation, hospitality, and a reason to linger a little longer around a table.
And that is precisely where the idea for our subscriptions was born.
Abol: the first round
💛 ABOL is the first round.
It is the beginning of the ceremony. The coffee is expressed with greater intensity, and everything is yet to start.
That is why we chose Abol for our most exceptional selection.
ABOL · Exceptional Pleasures brings together microlots, special processes, and some of the most unique coffees that arrive at Black Jebena.
These are our gold label coffees, selected for those who look for different, complex, and memorable profiles.
You can see it here.
Tona: the conversation continues
❤️ TONA is the second round.
The first cup is already finished, but no one is in too much of a hurry to get up. The conversation continues, coffee is poured again, and the moment lengthens.
That is also the idea behind our Tona selection.
TONA · Special Moments brings together coffees with more complexity, character, and special profiles, designed for those who enjoy discovering something different.
These are our red label coffees.
You can see it here.
Bereka: coffee as a daily ritual
💚 BEREKA is the third round.
It is the closing of the ceremony, a moment associated with sharing, giving thanks, and enjoying something that is part of daily life.
That is why BEREKA · Daily Rituals is our selection designed to make good Ethiopian coffee part of your everyday life.
Balanced coffees, full of identity and easy to enjoy regularly.
These are our green label coffees.

Three rounds, the same ceremony
In Ethiopia, it is completely normal to ask which part of the ceremony someone is in:
Abol? Tona? Bereka?
And we liked that idea too much not to bring it to Black Jebena.
We didn't just want to create three subscriptions ordered by price.
We wanted each one to represent a different way to enjoy coffee, inspired by a tradition that has been bringing people together around a cup for generations.
Our subscription does not intend to literally reproduce the Ethiopian ceremony.
What we have taken from it is its structure and, above all, its spirit.
Three moments. Three ways to approach coffee. The same culture behind them all.
You choose the round. We choose the coffee.
This is one of the parts we like most about our system.
You don't have to choose the same coffee every time.
You choose Abol, Tona, or Bereka, and we make the selection for you.
Throughout the year, we will change coffees, origins, processes, and lots within each range.
One month you might discover a Guji coffee, and the next, one from Sidama. A washed coffee might give way to a natural or a more special process, depending on the selection available at any given time.
This way, you can keep discovering Ethiopia without having to decide which coffee to buy every time.
You choose your plan, the number of bags, the weight, and the grind.
We take care of the rest.
Why subscribe?
For us, a subscription isn't just about applying a discount (though it does that, too).
It also allows us to better plan our lots and reserve coffee for those who trust Black Jebena month after month.
As a subscriber, you will have priority over our stock and will automatically receive your selection every month.
Furthermore, the price of each plan is fixed and the discount is already applied. The coffee will change, and the value of the coffee you receive will almost always be higher than the price of your subscription. You come out on top.
And we want it to remain something convenient.
If you don't need coffee one month, you can pause your subscription. If you want to try another range, you can change your plan. And if you decide to stop, you can cancel it.
Without turning coffee into just another obligation.
A different way to discover Ethiopia
Black Jebena was born with a very simple idea: to work exclusively with Ethiopian coffee and bring not only its coffees closer, but also part of the culture that surrounds them.
That is why it made sense that our subscriptions wouldn't just be called Basic, Premium, or Gold.
Behind the coffee we roast exists a culture much larger than ourselves.
And there are words that are worth preserving.
Abol. Tona. Bereka.
Three rounds.
Three moments.
The same coffee culture.
